Boomerangs Take 2 From Allstars

Saturday saw Boomerangs FS host table topping Inner West Allstars.

12 boys got us under way as usual, and got off to the worst possible start conceding 5 in the first 8 minutes. From there the improvment was vast with the boys scoring 2 goals to allstars 3 for the rest of the game.

12 girls were out to get their season back on track after 2 straight loses, but without star goalkeeper Rhiannan Harrison it was always going to be a tough ask. The girls played som good futal early on and could have taken the lead. The lack of goals in the first 5 came back to bite the girls who went behind shortly after. From there it went from bad to worse with the girls pushing on to try and find some goals. End result 0-13

14 boys were going to find it tough, even with the 3 outdoor nationals representatives back on deck. The boys sat deep early but soon realised that the Allstars were happy to keep the ball all day. pressing higher up the court opened the game up for both teams with various opportunities going begging for both sides. It remained close throughout the game with the Allstars coming out 3-0 victors.

14 girls were up against a fellow undefeated side in this one. 0-0 at halftime was a good relfection of the closeness in this game. However some poor defending early in the 2nd stanza from our girls saw the Allstars gifted an opportunity which they duly converted. the score remained 1-0 for almost 10 minutes despite the Boomerangs girls playing some mesmerising futsal. The equaliser was on the cards and came with 5 minutes remaining. The Allstars unhappy with just a point ushed on and secured a 2-1 win with only seconds remaining on the clock.

16 boys for the 2nd week in a row got off to a very slow start conceding 4 goals in the frist half. the 2nd half saw a much improved performance from our boys outscoring a good Allstars side 2-1 but it wasn't enough and our boys have successive loses for the first time in 20 months.

16 girls were almost back to full strength for this clash but you wouldn't have know it in the first half with Allstars dominating and taking a 2-1 lead into the break. The 2nd half was the Natalie DeMarco show with the young star leading by example beating players at will. The girls equalised early in the 2nd half, but were made to wait until the final 5 minutes to get the winning goals with some brilliant passing movements securing the win 4-2.

Youth men were without custodian Dom DeMarco for this one. The first half was all Boomerangs with Ryan Keir putting in a brilliant display from the back. Boomerangs dominance was rewarded with 2 lead at half time. The 2nd half was a tighter affair with neither team giving an inch. 2 Quick fire goals against the run of play for the Allstars saw the game turn on its head with only 5 minutes to go. Boomerangs showed great maturity to keep doing the things that were working and scored 3 goals in those final minutes to hand Allstars their first loss of the season.

Women were at full strength for their clash with a quality Allstars outfit. The game was close throughout with both teams creating several chances but it was the Allstars girls who were able to finish them with a goal in each half enough to take the game 2-0.

Boomerangs Men were severly undermanned for this clash with 6 players away due to weddings and work comittments. A tense 1st half saw very little given away with the only goal going the Allstars way from a dubious 6m penalty. The 2nd half was much the same, although our Boomerangs boys decided defending deep and using counter attacks to great affect. The equalising goal came with only 3 minutes left on the clock, it was short lived however with some tired defending costing Boomerangs as Allstars took the lead seconds later. The final 2 minutes saw Boomerangs miss several golden opportunities to get something out of the game. Final score 1-2.

2 wins from 9 matches seemed like a poor result but looking back on the day it could have quite easily been a 4-5 split. Plenty of positives for our Boomerangs!!
