Good Results at Southern Cross for Boomerangs

1st November, 2011

Saturday saw Sydney City make the journey down the hume to take on our Boomerangs at Southern Cross.

After some confusion with th referees on which venue they were at the 12 boys got underway. The first half looked very promising for our boys with plenty of chances but they were unable to convert taking a 0-1 defecit into the break. The 2nd half was the complete opposite of the firt with Sydney City dominating, outscoring our boys 5-1 for a final result of 1-6.

12 Girls were looking to get their 2nd win of the season after some tight losses in earlier matches. The first half was a tight affair and the 0-0 scoreline at the break reflected this. The 2nd half saw the Boomerangs girls take a stangle hold with 2 fantastic goals to take the game 2-0.

14 boys were looking to bounce back after a disappointing loss to Mascot last weekend. This was an end to end contest right from the get go with both teams dominating in patches throughout the game. Again it was down to basic mistakes and poor finishing as another game slipped through our fingers with 4-7 the final result.

14 girls have hit a run of poor form recently with back to back losses and this game was a good opportunity to bounce back. A slow start from both teams saw plenty of turnovers in the first 10 minutes a 1 goal lead at half time was less than comfortable for our girls. a good 2nd half display saw our girls take a 4-1 lead with 4 minutes to go. A late goal to Sydney City saw the score move to 4-2 and thats the way it stayed.

Like the 14 girls our 16 boys have been in a form slump of late and it wasn't going to get any easier against a quality Eagles side. Things looked promising early with some good possession from our boys however 2 swift counter attacks saw our boys on the back foot at the break. things started well as our boys got a goal back, but as we pressed for the equaliser the game opened up for the Eagles who converted 3 more to take the game 5-1.

Our 16 girls have been very unlucky this season and could quite easily have been a top the table. Despite missing key player Rebecca Collins due to suspension the girls turned out a quality performance to take a solid 4-1 victory and move back into 3rd position in the table.

2 Damaged shoulders, 1 ankle injury and a family holiday hit our youth boys stocks for this game. It was time for the younger players to step up and step up they did taking a convincing 3-1 victory and stay in touch with the top end of the table.

Inconsistent line ups leading to inconsistent results has been the story of our season so far in the Womens division. Chances were few and far between for both teams early on, but it was the Eagles that broke the deadlock with a lucky break away followed by a swift finish. The eagles kicked on from there with a powerful display taking a 2-0 lead at the break. things continued in the same manner in the 2nd half with eagle pilling on 3 goals to 1 to take the game 5-1.

The mens game promised to be a cracker with both teams sitting in the top 3 after 5 rounds. The first half was a tight contest with both teams keeping possession well and plugging away at each others defence. Our boys opened the scoring midway through the first only for Eagles to hit back with a late equaliser leaving it 1-1 at the break. 2 Swift counter attacks followed by an Eagles own goal early in the 2nd saw our boys take a commanding 4-1 lead. The last 8 minutes saw numerous chances for both teams but only the Eagles could capitalise scoring 2 to set up a tense final 3 minutes. Our boys held on for a memorable 4-3 win.

A good day for the Club in the championship taking 5 wins and claiming 6th spot outright from Sydney city.
